The Reframe Story

Reframing Strength · Redefining Wellness

As an independent, family-run studio, ReFRAME brings a deeply personal approach to wellness. Every detail reflects the vision of husband-and-wife co-founders Matthew and Lauren Harding, whose combined expertise brings together elevated design and purposeful movement.

Matthew and Lauren have always shared a passion for health, movement, and living well, but in 2025 that passion was profoundly reshaped. When Matthew received a diagnosis of Lynch Syndrome - a condition that significantly increases his lifelong risk of developing cancer, it brought with it an immediate shift in perspective. With a young child, the focus became clear: to slow down, reassess, and take an active role in protecting their long-term health as a family.

Less than a year after his diagnosis, the Harding family was faced with another unexpected challenge. Matthew suffered two strokes affecting the cerebellum, the part of the brain responsible for coordination and balance. Given his level of fitness, it was a another shock that underscored a difficult truth: health is not something we can ever take for granted.
ReFRAME was born from this moment;
Shaped by experience, driven by purpose, and grounded in the belief that how we move, live, and care for ourselves truly matters.
Discover Our Team
ReFRAME Wellness Club is not just a studio. It is a space built on resilience, education, and the belief that movement is one of the most powerful tools we have to support both physical and mental wellbeing. ReFRAME marks the beginning of a wider vision to redefine luxury wellness in the North East, blending fitness, mindfulness, and holistic living, all delivered within a setting of understated elegance. We are committed to creating a supportive, inclusive environment where people can invest in their health in a meaningful and sustainable way.

Alongside our classes, ReFRAME will also be hosting events throughout the year to raise awareness and support for causes close to our co-founders hearts; including the Stroke Association and Cancer Research UK.
From co-founders to trainers, each person brings a shared commitment to thoughtful movement, genuine care, and helping others build strength, confidence, and resilience - inside and out.

Matthew Harding

Co-founder
With a long-standing personal commitment to movement, strength, and physical longevity, Matthew has trained in Muay Thai for many years and has spent the past eight years focused on calisthenics; developing a deep understanding of body control, joint health, and functional movement. Through his dedicated fitness training, Matthew has seen first-hand how mobility, stability, and control underpin long-term performance, injury prevention, and overall wellbeing. His approach to movement is rooted in the belief that strength without mobility is limiting, and that sustainable fitness comes from balance rather than intensity alone.

Drawing on his experience within the Muay Thai, calisthenics, and strength training communities, he is a strong advocate for introducing more men to Pilates as a powerful tool for improving mobility, recovery, and movement quality. His aim is to create a space where men feel equally welcome to explore Pilates as part of a well-rounded training approach.

Following his own health diagnosis, Matthew will use ReFRAME as a dedicated space for his own rehabilitation, rebuilding strength and using movement to aid recovery and reconnect mind and body – something we hope to share with every member who walks through our doors.
Fun Fact:
Matthew is always the grown-up doing flips on the bouncy castle at children’s parties, usually to the alarm and concern of other adults, but the kids absolutely love him!

Lauren Harding

Co-founder
Lauren Harding is the Creative Director at ReFRAME, and the founder of a nationally recognised interior design studio, known for creating refined, experience-driven spaces across both commercial and residential sectors. An SBID-accredited interior designer, her work has been featured in leading publications including House & Garden, Living North, and Interior Design Magazine, recognised for its timeless elegance, attention to detail, and immersive quality.

While her career has been rooted in design excellence, Lauren has always had a strong connection to movement and wellbeing. In her younger years, she was heavily involved in spinning, training to become a spin instructor, but after becoming a mother, she experienced first-hand how much the body can change and how challenging it can be to reconnect with fitness. Reformer offered a way to rebuild strength, restore confidence, and reconnect with her body in a more mindful way. Combined with a long-standing passion for holistic wellbeing, including practices such as reiki and acupuncture, ReFRAME was inspired from a personal place to shape a more balanced, whole-body approach to health.

Identifying a clear gap in the North East for thoughtfully designed, luxury wellness spaces, Lauren set out to create something different - a space where design excellence, full-body fitness, and holistic wellbeing come together seamlessly. More than just a place to exercise, ReFRAME is a fully immersive environment designed with intention; from the architecture and materiality to the atmosphere itself. Where strength and stillness sit side by side, and where wellbeing becomes part of everyday life.
Fun Fact:
Lauren has six pets at home and is already planning the seventh. A parrot is next on the list (Matthew doesn’t know this yet...)
Reformer Instructor
Tia McDonald
Tia is your go-to reformer girl; bringing the spice, the shakes, and yes… ALL the pulses.

Tia fell head over heels for reformer Pilates after having her little boy, and found that it completely changed the way she felt in her body. From that moment on, she knew she needed to share that magic with as many people as possible.

Expect high vibes, heavy springs, lunges that burn in the best way, and her signature slow counts that will have you questioning your life choices (but you'll thank her later..!). You'll move with intention, build serious strength, and have a lot of fun doing it.

Louise Taylor
Louise has always loved different forms of fitness, but from the moment she tried Reformer Pilates, she completely fell in love with the way it made her feel. What started as a passion soon became a career she genuinely loves (and feels priviledged to teach!) as she quickly stepped outside her comfort zone and threw herself into teacher training.

With qualifications in both Reformer and Mat Pilates (and even more training already in the works), Louise is all about creating classes that challenge and empower you, help you move, feel stronger, and feel good in yourself by connecting to your body in a whole new way.
